Pleased to meet you. My name is Radina Valova. I’m a lawyer by day and fiction writer by night, with a minor obsession with policy, journalism, film, and good books.
Reading has always been a refuge. My work (energy and climate law and policy) is also my passion, but even when you love what you do, you crave variety – it keeps your mind fresh and renews your spirit. Here, I share my readings and explore links between the disciplines, distinct but interrelated, that have always fascinated me most.
I also share my fiction exploits and whatever dregs of wisdom I have managed to extract from several years of writing in my spare time. The short version: 1) If you want to be a writer, sit down at your desk and write. Every day. Even if you only have 20 minutes. Inspiration waits for no one. 2) If you want to be a good writer, read. Every day. Even if you only have 20 minutes. Read good prose and bad prose and everything in between – you’ll learn what you love and what doesn’t work for you. 3) Write for an audience of one: you. There is no external motivator more powerful than the passion and joy of putting pen to paper and seeing what comes out. If you write for someone else, the fire will burn out.
Don’t be shy – I’d love to hear from you with questions or comments.
